I finished NaNoWriMo, for those interested in the very rough draft of the Elderhaven Setting you can check out the result of my NaNoing here.
In other news. I have a few new ideas for projects, however I’m not quite ready to start posting them here. I haven’t worked on any of my current projects since the start of November, so the updates will be a bit light the first few weeks back.
I’m very happy with how the writing for the setting went this past month. It set up roots and became much more concrete than it was previously. I do not have a system that I want to use with the setting yet. The setting evolved a lot during this first rough draft into something of a fantasy-punk-points-of-light setting. I’m very excited about developing the world further, and will be editing the writing I did this last month when I get time.
The holidays are a little hectic so over this next month I’ll be trying to organize and get prepared for upcoming projects. As always if you are interested in playtesting or just seeing what I’m working on please send me an E-mail to be put on the mailing list.
As I mentioned last week, in honor of NaNoWriMo I’m writing 50,000 words for the Elderhaven setting, which isn’t actually a novel, but it is a fictional narrative. So far it has been going well, most of what I’m writing is just exploratory writing and will need some heavy editing, but I’m pleased with the direction so far.
Rather than rewrite a bunch of stuff that I’ve already written I’m just going to invite everyone to read along. So here is a link to a public folder so that people will be able to follow along with the writing this month. As I said previously this is largely exploratory writing that will need heavy editing, so it will not be a perfect read.
Since I will be updating the public files each day I’m going to dispense with the weekly updates for the rest of this month and will start back up the first Tuesday of next month.
Thanks again for reading.
This week I’ve been working mostly on the party drafting game I mentioned previously. The basic concept is that the players are trying to gain the most renown as an adventuring guild. The primary mechanic is drafting and a little cooperative competition. The players will take turns drafting adventurers and sending them to dungeons, the adventurers have several skills; Combat, Magic, Traps, Leadership, and Scouting. The Combat, Magic, and Trap skills are used while completing rooms. The Scouting and Leadership skills are used to look ahead when exploring the dungeon and give a player control over choices made in the dungeon. Adventuring parties will continue exploring rooms until the leader decides not to continue or they defeat a boss room. Once the players complete a dungeon all players that sent adventurers will get renown points and the player that controlled the leader will get bonus points.
Another upcoming project is NaNoWriMo. This year I’m going to write setting for Elderhaven so by the end of November I’ll hopefully have 50,000 words of setting for that project. Which will then need to be heavily edited. I might just post bits of that project during the next month since it will require most of my free time.
As for other projects Elementary is still coming along nicely, once I get to pick up some ink for my printer I’ll have the next PnP build ready and will be able to get back to playtesting it. Dig Site still needs to get new iconography. As always thanks for reading and if you want copies of any of the PnP files send me an E-mail and I’ll get them to you.
